These layered maple pecan bars are a deliciously fresh take on a classic fall dessert.]]> Ok friends, get your fat pants ready (I seriously have a pair of these,) because Halloween is over and it’s now officially the holiday season! That means baking, cooking, and most importantly eating. When it comes to dessert I’m not much of a cake guy, but pie on the other hand…. YES!! Always. So, when Lindseycame homeraving about apecan pie dessert she had recently, I jumped at the chance to put an OMT spin on itand to figure out a way to make them, sooooo we partnered with HEB and made our own versionof maple pecan bars for Friendsgiving this year!

Maple Pecan Pie Bars

It’s delicious layerygoodness. A perfectly soft, brown sugar crust topped with agooey mix of maple syrup and pecans. This will be your go-to dessert for the holidays and the process is so easy. I may find myself experimenting with what other pies I can make into pie barsnow!

All the ingredients can be found at your local HEB! They make enough for you to share… but there is no judgment here if you keep them all for yourself hah!

For the Crust
 1. 1 cup all purpose flour
 2. 1/3 cup brown sugar
 3. 1/2 cup unsalted butter
For the Filling
 1. 1 large egg
 2. 1/3 cup brown sugar
 3. 1/3 cup maple syrup
 4. 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
 5. 1 cup pecans (use whichever you prefer, whole or halved)
 6. 1/4 teaspoon of salt
Instructions
 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
 2. Line small baking pan (8x8) with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray. I learned a hard lesson by not adding the foil, just trust me....add the foil. The bars are sticky and your future self with thank you for not skipping this step.
 3. For the crust add all of the crust ingredients into a large bowl and mix together.*As a tip make sure the butter is soft, I even melted it a little in the microwave to soften it.
 4. Pour the crust mixture into your pan and press it down to form a nice even crust and then bake in the oven for 15 - 17 minutes.
 5. While the crust is baking add all of the ingredients for the filling, except the pecans, into a large bowl and mix.
 6. Once mixed add in the pecans and set aside until the crust is done baking.
 7. Remove the crust from the oven and evenly pour the filling over the top of the crust, making sure it has a smooth surface and no pecans are sticking up that can get burned.
 8. Place back in the oven and bake at 350 for another 18 minutes. You want to bake it until the filling is set and you can insert a knife so that it comes out clean.
 9. Remove from oven and let it sit on a cooling rack for about an hour. (if you used the foil then you can just remove the whole thing and rest it on the cooling rack.)

Every year Lindz and I have several must-do Fall activities ( you know, drink a PSL, go to a pumpkin patch etc.) and we write themall out on apiece of paper. This year we wanted to jazz up our normal list. So, we made a Fall bucket list with an actual bucket! My favorite part is that each weekend, we can just pull a random stick out and do that activity. We hope y’all enjoy making this as much as we did and that you and your family enjoy the Fall season.

 • Large popsicle sticks
 • Ashland decorative fall filler (little marble pumpkins, leaves and acorns: found at Michaels)

Fall Home Tour – Metal, Cream, & Grapevine http://www.ourmessytable.com/fall-home-tour-metal-cream-grapevine/ http://www.ourmessytable.com/fall-home-tour-metal-cream-grapevine/#respond Tue, 24 Nov 2015 23:05:27 +0000 http://www.ourmessytable.com/?p=547 This year on a whim I decided to completely change my typical fall color scheme of warm tone oranges, browns, and maroons & instead channeled my inner Joanna Gaines by incorporating metal pumpkins, an old window, wood and a ton of grapevine. Oh and lots of cotton! Seriously, there could never be enough cotton. Then I finished the look off with little touches of silver throughout. Here's a look at my 2015 Fall Home Tour!]]> I realize this post should have been up a month ago and that by now everyone is already thinking about Christmas decorations ( which I am too, believe me!) but since it is still November for a couple more days, I thought I would go ahead and share my Fall Décor before I put it all away.

This year on a whim I decided to completely change my typical fall color scheme of warm tone oranges, browns, and maroons and instead channeled my inner Joanna Gaines ( if you don’t know who this is after you read this post – stop everything your doing and go watch, Fixer Upper, on Netflix asap- you will thank me later LOL!) by incorporating metal pumpkins, an old window, wood and a ton of grapevine. Oh and lots of cotton! Seriously, there could never be enough cotton. Then finished the look off with little touches of silver throughout.

Here’s a look at my 2015 Fall Home Tour:

Mantle:

I think the mantle was my favorite part this year. We haven’t had a mantle in a couple years and I forgot how much fun it is to decorate it!

IMG_9204.JPG

(Excuse the dirty fire place, it is on my to-do list!)

IMG_9175.JPG

John made the Acts 2:46 Sign for me out of an old window. It has become one of my all time favorite pieces.

IMG_9181.JPG

The wood stumps are from Michael’s Art Supply and by adding the raccoon on top, it just made the little guy stand out so much more!

IMG_9179.JPG

My favorite “find” of the season was this metal pumpkin. This is the piece that tied everything together. I originally saw this pumpkin at a high- end design shop and couldn’t justify spending the money on it. Then a couple days later, I found the exact same pumpkin at Hobby Lobby and of course it was cheaper and was 50% off! (Don’t get betta than that!) So, needless to say – this pumpkin came home with me and has been sitting here being gorgeous ever since.

Tip: I wanted the cream pumpkin to sit up higher, so we took a candle holder and put the pumpkin on top of it. You can also use clear bowls and glassware to do the same thing! You will never even notice it, but it helps add dimension. Especially if you use this technique on an entryway table or on top of a cabinet or entertainment center and use greenery, garland, or ribbon to hide it.

Entertainment Center:

IMG_9189.JPG IMG_9184.JPG IMG_9187.JPG IMG_9193.JPG

My mom uses grapevine in all her decorations and this year she taught me an awesome trick! She buys a grapevine wreath and cuts the pieces that hold the wreath together. Be sure to do it outside – it gets messy! Then grab one end and have someone pull it out away from you and it will stretch into this really pretty twig, curly vine. Then you can break it into sections to make it easier to decorate with. I had enough from one $5 wreath from Michael’s Art Supply to use in all my Fall decorating. It can be a little hard to work with, so just be patient. You may have to drape and reposition it several times to get it to look the way that you want it too.

Inside the cubbies of the entertainment center:

IMG_9183.JPG IMG_9188.JPG IMG_9186.JPG

To fill those random spaces, I bought a couple signs from Hobby Lobby and Home Goods, used leftover cotton and put it in a glass jar, and filled a basket with extra pumpkins that I had.

Coffee Table:

IMG_9206.JPG

Entryway Table:

IMG_9200.JPG IMG_9201.JPG

IMG_9207.JPG
One thing I love about this using metals, creams, and grapevine is that so much of my decorations can be used all year long. All I have to do is trade out the pumpkins and cotton for other seasonal items.

I hope you enjoyed my first Home Tour on the blog! Tonight, I will be packing it all up and starting to put out Christmas Décor. So, stay tuned for my Christmas Home Tour post soon!

Thanks for stopping by!

Lindsey
