With Christmas just days away, we thought many of you would be wrapping presents like crazy – so we wanted to share this super easy tutorial on how to make the perfect Christmas bow! This bow technique can be used on any occasion, just swap out the ribbon.

Supplies:

 • Wired Ribbon – this is super important to make sure the ribbon is wired, otherwise the bow won’t hold it’s shape.
 • Add an ornament for extra flare!
 • Scissors

Tip: Really all you do to make the bow, is make 3 loops on each side. If your ribbon has a pattern on one side, you will notice in the video that I twist it to make sure the pattern is not hidden before I make a loop.

This was our first video and we have already learned so much for next time haha! Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions for the next one 🙂 Happy Wrapping & Merry Christmas!

Twine Ornament Garland http://www.ourmessytable.com/twine-ornament-garland/ http://www.ourmessytable.com/twine-ornament-garland/#comments Wed, 14 Dec 2016 04:58:26 +0000 http://www.ourmessytable.com/?p=3662 This pink and gold twine ornament garland would be so cute on your tree, mantle, or even on your holiday bar cart! ]]> I almost didn’t write this post, because it seems too simple, but I really loved the way it turned out and decided to share it anyway. It is no secret I love to shop for decorations. I am definitely a seasonal decorator and would say most of my spending goes towards home dĂ©cor and projects, but there are times when I find something in a store and decide I just will NOT pay that price for it. I found the cutest twine ornament garland when my Mom and I were in Canton, but the price just seemed insane for twine and ornaments – soI decided to make my own twine ornament garland and not only was it super simple and cheap, but it turned into a fun little project.

TwineOrnament Garland

twine ornament garland, ornaments, gold and pink ornaments, garland, christmas, christmas decorating,

All you need for this is twine and mini ornaments. I loved the pink and gold color combo, but choose any colors you want! I bought the ornaments for 50% off at Michael’s in a tube. The amount of ornaments you need will depend on how long you want your garland.

twine ornament garland, ornaments, gold and pink ornaments, garland, christmas, christmas decorating,

I lined up all of the ornaments in the order I wanted them on the garland. Then tied a loop on one end of the garland and strung them on. I didn’t mind that the ornaments moved around a bit, but if you want them to stay in place you can tie a little knot before and after each ornament to keep them from sliding.

Ta-da! You are finished! This twine ornament garlandwouldbe so cute on your tree, on the mantle, even to dress up a Christmas barcart for a holiday party.

Listen the next time you ask someone about their holidays or even when someone asks you, it will start will ” In my family we ALWAYS….” or “something we do every year is…”. Traditions. We all have them and we all love them. One tradition that we started as a part of our Friendsgiving every year is a photo booth. It’s a simple thing, but it allows us to create small memories that we can easily share with our guests and it is always a hit.

DIY Photo Booth Backdrop

Supplies:

 • Birchwood stick ( I found this at Michael’s and used a 50% off coupon!)
 • Nails
 • Hammer
 • White Sheet or curtain
 • Ribbon
 • Fake flowers ( Check the clearance section – we got all of these flowers for 80% off!)

 • Grapevine wire ( This can be found at most craft stores, I got it from Michael’s)
 • Flowers ( I used fake flowers, but this can also be done with fresh flowers)
 • Wire Cutters

Directions:

 1. Measure your head with the wire ( I added an extra 1 1/2 inches, since it is a prop and I wanted to make sure it would fit other people as well) andtwist or tiethe ends of the wire togetherto make a circle.
 2. Onceyou have thewire circle, then take another piece the same length and wrap it around the first piece to give it a vine look.
 3. Decide how you want your flowers to be arranged. I decided on my crown that I wanted flowers on only one side. I cut the flowers and wrapped the ends with floral tape. (You technically don’t have to do this step, I just wanted to cover up the ends of the stems and it also allowed me to mix the flowers and make a stem with several different flowers on one stem.)
 4. Use the floral tape to secure your flower stems to the crown by wrappingthe floral tapeseveral times around the wire crown.
 5. If there are some spots that need to be filled, go back in with a hot glue gun and add in some extra greenery to fill inany emptyspace between the flowers.

 2. Paint on the icing. No set design just make sure to leave an outer edge and a hole in the middle of your donut. Let dry.
 3. Paint on the sprinkles. Let dry. **Tip – I tried painting smaller, thinner sprinkles first and it looked to busy. The larger sprinkles looked much better.
 4. Play Poker.

Lemonade Themed Summer Wreath http://www.ourmessytable.com/lemonade-themed-summer-wreath/ http://www.ourmessytable.com/lemonade-themed-summer-wreath/#comments Tue, 19 Jul 2016 01:17:42 +0000 http://www.ourmessytable.com/?p=2400 Hope you all are having a great Summer! I wanted to share with you my Lemonade Themed Summer Wreath that I made for my front door this Summer. Even though it is mid-July, it is not too late to make this wreath. You can leave it up through all of August too (plus the Summer decor is most likely all on sale!)]]> Hope you all are having a great Summer! I wanted to share with you my Lemonade Themed Summer Wreath that I made for my front door this Summer. Even though it is mid-July, it is not too late to make this wreath. You can leave it up through all of August too (plus the Summer decor is most likely all on sale!)

Lemonade themed summer diy wreath

Lemonade Themed Summer Wreath

Supplies:

 • Grapevine wreath
 • 1-2 focal pieces: for this wreath, I chose the “Fresh squeezed lemonade sign” and the large burlap ribbon. I found both of these from Hobby Lobby.
 • Wired Ribbon: I chose a pink, yellow striped, and a textured white ribbon. You can chose any patterns you want, just make sure you are buying wired ribbon. (otherwise, the bow won’t form correctly.)
 • Artificial Flowers: I chose yellow, white, and pink flowers.
 • Wire
 • Hot Glue Gun

DIY, summer, flowers, lemonade themed, wreath, how to, tutorial, do it yourself

Step One:

You want to attach the large focal point pieces first. So, I attached the large burlap lemon to the center of the grapevine wreath. I wanted it to be a little at an angle.

DIY, summer, flowers, lemonade themed, wreath, how to, tutorial, do it yourself

Step Two:

I then wired the Fresh Squeezed Lemonade Sign to the wreath, allowing it to overlap on the burlap lemon.

Step Three:

The next step is to create what will be the “tails” of your bow. You can make these however long you desire. I took all three ribbon colors and layered them on top of each other. Before you cut the ribbon, hold the middle up to the center of the wreath and let the ends fall down on either side to determine if you need the ribbon to be shorter or longer on either side. I let the ribbon fall about half way down the wreath (you can always go back and make them shorter if you need too.)

Once you have the ribbon the length you want it, then use the same piece of wire and attach it to the sign in the center of the wreath.

DIY, summer, flowers, lemonade themed, wreath, how to, tutorial, do it yourself

Step Four:

Leaving a little ribbon left a the bottom, I bunch the ribbon and hot glued it in place. Then I added a flower.

DIY, summer, flowers, lemonade themed, wreath, how to, tutorial, do it yourself

DIY, summer, flowers, lemonade themed, wreath, how to, tutorial, do it yourself

Step Five:

It is time to add the top of the bow! Here is a video I shared last year on how to make a Christmas bow, but it is the same concept. You will make “loops” with the ribbon, the only difference is you will be using all three ribbon, instead of the one in the video. Don’t get discouraged if you have to do this several times! It may take a few tries, but that is the great thing about wired ribbon – it allows for you to make mistakes and just flatten it out and start over. Once you have your bow ready, then you will tie it onto the left over wire from earlier.

When you are tying the ribbon to the wire, the loops may get a little smushed. Don’t worry! Just go back through and fluff out the ribbon, when you are done.

DIY, summer, flowers, lemonade themed, wreath, how to, tutorial, do it yourself

Step Six:

Now that the bow is in place, you can go back and add in the flowers! I chose a long stem of yellow flowers. I placed it very close to the top of bow and let it come down along the right side of the wreath. To secure the flowers in place, I first wedge the stems into the grapevine wreath and then hot glue the ends in place.

DIY, summer, flowers, lemonade themed, wreath, how to, tutorial, do it yourself

Top view of the bow and flowers

DIY, summer, flowers, lemonade themed, wreath, how to, tutorial, do it yourself

That was the final step! You can just back through and fill in spots that look bare by hot gluing the flowers in and around the bow.

DIY, summer, flowers, lemonade themed, wreath, how to, tutorial, do it yourself

DIY, summer, flowers, lemonade themed, wreath, how to, tutorial, do it yourself

I purposely made my bow a little off centered and lean towards the left side. In order to balance the wreath out, I had the flowers come down farther on the right side.

I hope you enjoyed this DIY Lemonade Summer Wreath as much as I did making it! If you have any questions or need any help when making it yourself, just let me know! I am happy to answer any questions you have.

DIY Ombre Giant Jenga http://www.ourmessytable.com/ombre-giant-jenga/ http://www.ourmessytable.com/ombre-giant-jenga/#comments Thu, 26 May 2016 11:00:05 +0000 http://www.ourmessytable.com/?p=1597 Summer is almost here and this easy giant jenga DIY is just the thing to add some fun to your next backyard bbq.]]> I love games, doesn’t matter what kind: board game, video game, card game, or especially backyard games. I love them all and I think part of the reason is, because most of the games I like to play involve people and hanging out. I won’t talk about the competitive side, but just FYI – Lindz is super competitive, like trade her grandma for Park Place if it means winning Monopoly kind of competitive lol. Now the trend with backyard games seems to be to take older classic games and make them giant. And in the words of the amazing Phil Dunphy ” I’m hip, I surf the web, I text: LOL – Laugh Out Loud, OMG – Oh My God, WTF – Why The Face”, so being the trendy peeps that we are, we made ourselves a giant jenga set and put a little OMT twist on it by painting it ombre. It just adds a little flair, you know not crazy flair, but just enough to be more than the minimum amount of flair (Looking at you Jennifer Aniston.)

DIY Giant Ombre Jenga

Supplies:

 • 2×3 common boards
 • circular saw
 • measuring tape
 • electric sander or sanding block
 • paints
 • paint brushes

Directions:

Step 1: Make marks on your 2×3 every 7 1/2 inches.

Step 2: Using the circular saw cut all of the blocks. You will need 45 of these blocks.

Step 3: Sand all of your blocks and prepare them for paint.

Step 4: Section all the blocks into 5 groups with 9 blocks each. Paint each group a different color of the ombre them of your choice and let dry.

TIP: I found that if you just choose 3 colors (bottom, middle, and top), then the “in-between” colors can just be a blend of the two around it. It will help you get the perfect fade color.

Example:

Section 1 – a “White”

Section 2 – ab mix

Section 3 – b “Teal”

Section 4 – bc mix

Section 5 – c “Dark Blue”

Man I hope that makes sense haha.

And that’s it, a very simple project that will be a great outdoor game this summer with friends and family and also be a colorful backyard decoration piece. Our backyard is under construction with a few projects that we will hopefully get to showcase soon but until then we took the giant jenga to the color wall in Houston for a little photoshoot. Any giant backyard games that are your favorites? Let us know in the comments below.

I know your dying to ask but a gentleman never beats his wife in a game and then tells all his friends on the internet. So until next time and as always, thanks for stopping by! Show us your projects by using #omtcrafts!

Rustic Wooden Calendar http://www.ourmessytable.com/rustic-wooden-calendar/ http://www.ourmessytable.com/rustic-wooden-calendar/#comments Tue, 24 May 2016 10:00:59 +0000 http://www.ourmessytable.com/?p=1978 The Wooden Perpetual Calendar is a gorgeous functional accent piece to any home office not to mention easy to make.]]> Have you ever see something in the store that you love, but then see the price tag and think well I don’t love it for that price ?! Me too, all the time! And what I do in most of those situations is ask myself if I can make it myself? This was one of those situations and the answer was ‘yes I can’ and today I’m going to show you how to make a Rustic Wooden Calendar.

Rustic Wooden Calendar

Farmhouse, fixer upper, rustic, Rustic Wooden Calender, home, office, calendar, woodwork, diy, our messy table, omtcrafts

I will say the hardest part was figuring out how I was going to make those metal sliders and then out of sheer blind luck I was at Walmart and happen to look down to see a photo album that had a metal label holder on the side. Genius! But of course Walmart doesn’t sell those pieces individually, but lucky for me I live near a Hobby Lobby. Sorry that was a proud moment for me so I thought I’d share, haha. Lets get started my friends.

Materials:

 • Drill
 • Circular Saw
 • Jigsaw
 • Needle nose pliers
 • Hot glue gun
 • Glue sticks
 • Brass flat bars
 • Label Holders
 • (1) 1 x 4 common board at least 2ft long
 • (3) 1/2 in. x 2 x 2 poplar board (cut each board down from 2 ft to 1ft 8 in.)
 • (1) 1/2 in. x 3 x 2 poplar board (cut into 2 pieces of 11 1/2 in. each)
 • Wood screws
 • Wood glue
 • Sand paper
 • Wood stain
 • Letter stamps
 • Number stamps
 • Ink pad

Instructions:

Step 1: Cut all of the wood to the measurements given above.

Step 2: Lay the two side pieces flat and then line up all of the horizontal pieces to get the spacing right. Then measure 2 in. from the bottom and 2 in. in between each board, leaving 1 in. remaining on the top. I then labeled the board for my cuts.
Farmhouse, fixer upper, rustic, Rustic Wooden Calender, home, office, calendar, woodwork, diy, our messy table, omtcrafts

Using the drill make holes in each corner as shown, this will help with the corner cuts for the jigsaw. Then cut out each marked section with the jigsaw.

Farmhouse, fixer upper, rustic, Rustic Wooden Calender, home, office, calendar, woodwork, diy, our messy table, omtcrafts

Step 4: Assemble all of the pieces. Use wood glue to hold the horizontal bars in place and then screw each one to the side boards.

Step 5: Screw the side boards to the base by first drill a hole from the bottom into the side boards, then screwing them in place.

Farmhouse, fixer upper, rustic, Rustic Wooden Calender, home, office, calendar, woodwork, diy, our messy table, omtcrafts

Step 6: Using the needle nose pliers form the brass flat bars around the horizontal pieces, but not all the way yet. You want them to look like “C”s for the time being.

Farmhouse, fixer upper, rustic, Rustic Wooden Calender, home, office, calendar, woodwork, diy, our messy table, omtcrafts

Farmhouse, fixer upper, rustic, Rustic Wooden Calender, home, office, calendar, woodwork, diy, our messy table, omtcrafts

Step 7: Stain the wood

Step 8: Once the wood stain is dry, stamp the numbers on the lowest bar, then the Months on the middle bar and the days of the week on the top bar. For spacing I lined up all of the numbers then just stamped as I went.

Farmhouse, fixer upper, rustic, Rustic Wooden Calender, home, office, calendar, woodwork, diy, our messy table, omtcrafts

TIP: If you use a paper towel to wipe the edges of the stamp, you will keep yourself from get the square edges stamped on the wood as well.

Step 9: Using the hot glue gun, glue the label holders to the back of the flat brass “C”s that we created. Then assemble them onto the horizontal boards and using the needle nose pliers again, form the flat brass all the way around the boards.
