You spray them whatever color you want!! These spray painted pineapple centerpieces are so bright and colorful! They are tropical and perfect to decorate for a Summer party.

You probably have noticed, if you have read some of our other blog posts, that we like to make things as simple as possible. Life is so crazy busy, so I don’t need to spend hours on a centerpiece! I needed something that was cute, affordable, QUICK, and tropical! I picked up these pineapples and knew they would be super cute centerpieces, but John took my idea to the next level when he came up with the idea to spray paint them bright colors! ( That’s one thing that is great about blogging together. When we combine our ideas, the project always turns out 1000x better!)

Spray Painted Pineapple Centerpieces

Choose your spray paint colors and spray paint the pineapples first. We choose lime green, yellow, and a bright blue spray paint, because it matched our plates and table runner perfectly! Then we hollowed out the pineapple. We put the clear plastic cups inside of the pineapple and filled them with water for the flowers. (You can cut the tops off the cups if they need to be shorter. For our centerpieces, you didn’t notice the cups because the flowers hid the edge of the cup.) Then pick out your favorite Summer flowers!

Aren’t these bright colors beautiful? I love the way these centerpieces turned out. Below are a couple pictures of the full tablescape!

Don’t these colors just scream tropical vacation? If you didn’t get to go anywhere tropical this Summer at least your house can feel like one! John and I just finished our last trip of the Summer ( he travels a lot for work this time of the year.) So now the rest of my summer will be relaxing by the pool a bit in the upcoming weekends and hopefully getting caught up on some TV shows!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Farmhouse Wooden Bottle Tote http://www.ourmessytable.com/farmhouse-wooden-bottle-tote/ http://www.ourmessytable.com/farmhouse-wooden-bottle-tote/#comments Thu, 28 Apr 2016 06:26:46 +0000 http://www.ourmessytable.com/?p=1888 This Vintage Wooden Tote has that perfect rustic farmhouse feel and makes for a very easy weekend DIY project. ]]> I have really been wanting a fun woodworking project lately and I saw something similar to this on Pinterest, but it was always just as a beer tote. I wanted my farmhouse wooden bottle tote to bea little bigger as to be for both a rustic decoration in the house and to carry more than just beer. So I modified it a bit and it turned out perfect. And of course Lindsey did a phenomenal job by adding her touch to it. She added the idea for the farm style milk glasses and the flowers. This really is a very simple project with the most difficult part being working with the Jigsaw to cut out the shape of the side walls, but if I could buildit then youshouldn’thave any problems either LOL!

Farmhouse Wooden Bottle Tote

Farmhouse Wooden Bottle Tote, Rustic, Farmhouse, Fixer Upper, Milk Tote, bottle tote, decor, handmade, woodwork, diy

Materials:

 • 1 (1in x 8in x 6ft) poplar board
 • Circular saw
 • Drill
 • Tape Measure
 • Speed Square
 • Clamps
 • Hobby Boards
 • Jig Saw
 • 3/4 in Dowel Rod
 • 3/4 spade bit
 • 2 in Square trim screws
 • 220 grit sanding block
 • paint brush
 • Wood stain
 • Bottle opener (optional)

Directions:

Takethe 1 x 8 Poplar Board and measure to cut it to 7⅜ x 11⅞ inches long, then using the circular saw make your cuts. This will be the bottom of the bottle tote.

Next, measure and mark the hobby board to get four pieces measuring 2½-in. x 13⅜-in. long, then cut them using your circular saw.

To create the side pieces we get to do a little art. Take a sheet of paper and fold it in have length wise. Now draw half of your design on one side of the paper starting at the crease. Then while the paper is still folded cut out your shape and BAM, you have your template! The peak of my sides measure 11 3/4 in.

Once you have traced your template onto the Poplar board cut out the shape using your Jigsaw, then repeat the process for the other side.

Taking the 3/4 Spade bit, drill a hole towards the top of your two side pieces for the dowel to fit into.

Cut the ¾-in. wooden dowel down to 13⅜ in. long using a circular saw.

Now take the wood glue and ad some to the holes and on the ends of the dowel and then place each end into the side pieces to form your handle.

Apply wood glue to the bottom of the side pieces, then with the drill, secure frame together using 2-in. square trim screws.

Next, you’ll measure, mark and cut hobby boards for the inserts. These will divide the bottle tote’s interior into six sections.

Using a circular saw, cut one piece to 2½-in. x 11⅞-in. and 2 pieces to 2½-in. x 7⅜-in.

Next, using the jig saw, on the (2)7⅜-in notch out each insert a ½-in. every 3¾ inches. Make your notches 1¾-in. deep.

The last cut is the side rail. Cut 2 hobby boards to be 13 1/4 in long and cut with the circular saw. Then assemble them using the square trim screws.

Once fully assembled the last step is to stain. Using your brush and the wood stain, apply stain and remove any excess stain. Let dry and then wipe off the stain.

As an optional finishing touch you can add a bottle opener to one of the sides.

That’s it. I really enjoyed making this wooden tote and Lindsey really did a fantastic job making it a beautiful centerpiece. We found those Milk Glasses from Micheal’s and they added a great farmhouse rustic feel to the whole thing. Tell me your thoughts in the comments or if you need help at any of the stages. Spring Home Tour 2016 http://www.ourmessytable.com/spring-home-tour-2016/ http://www.ourmessytable.com/spring-home-tour-2016/#comments Thu, 24 Mar 2016 04:45:57 +0000 http://www.ourmessytable.com/?p=1472 I love Spring. I love the new, the fresh, the clean, all of it. I also enjoy the chance to decorate our house again and give it a new look. If you are in need of some Spring decor inspiration or just want to see what we have going on over at the Lyons' house then this post is for you. ]]> Happy Spring, Y’all! I love to decorate the house for Spring. Life lately has been so chaotic (I’m sure many of y’all can relate!) So, I tried to stick to a minimal, clean, and fresh look. Something that won’t overwhelm me when I get home from a busy day! Here’s a look at our Spring Home Tour 2016!

Here’s a look at the mantle:

I have mentioned this in earlier posts, but when we bought our new home this past Summer, I completely changed the color scheme in our house. Since then I have been collecting metal pieces, birchwood, cream & distressed decor. I have been trying to stick with those main staple pieces for every season, which saves me money, because I can reuse the same pieces in new ways each season. (Instead of buying a bunch of decor that I can only use once a year.) I did however, splurge on a couple bunnies for Easter, but for the most part – everything I got can be repurposed for each season.)

This is little wall in the living room is my favorite area in the house right now. This boxwood wreath& pillows really brought this area together.

This “Have I told you lately that I love you sign” used to be lime green and red. Take a look at what you already have and see if you can paint it and give it a fresh new look.

We use our coffee table all the time. So, lately I have been choosing simple centerpieces that won’t get messed up if we keep moving them around.

This candlestick goes with EVERYTHING. I like that it adds a little shimmer and breaks up the distressed pieces I have in the living room. & this metal tray has been used for SO many things. This is going to sound dramatic, but I would put it at the top of my best purchases of the year. It was so cheap and I have used it for other centerpieces& at a bridal shower to hold drinks.

This glass clochecaught my eye the minute I saw it! I put moss and these paper cache eggswith the little chicks inside it. I just love the way it turned out!

I have an obsession with boxwood everything right now. This little boxwood shrubwas too cute to pass up!

8 Tips for Hosting a Bridal Shower http://www.ourmessytable.com/8-tips-for-hosting-a-bridal-shower/ http://www.ourmessytable.com/8-tips-for-hosting-a-bridal-shower/#comments Thu, 03 Mar 2016 01:19:32 +0000 http://www.ourmessytable.com/?p=1301 This is an extra special post to me, because my dear friend is getting married this weekend! I teamed up with the other bridesmaids and we hosted a beautiful, bridal shower brunch. Here are 8 tips that we used when hosting her bridal shower!]]> This is an extra special post to me, because my dear friend is getting married this weekend! I teamed up with the other bridesmaids and we hosted a beautiful, bridal shower brunch. Here are my top eight tips for hosting a bridal shower!

Tips For Hosting a Bridal Shower

1. Chalkboard Welcome Sign

welcome sign for bridal shower

A welcome sign is awesome! It helps guests know they are in the right place and you can include the wedding hashtag, so that when guests take pictures – the bride can find them later on Instagram and Facebook.

2. Guest Sign-in Table

bridal shower sign in table

The guest sign-in is the perfect place to:

 • Add pictures of the bride and groom
 • Decorate with a Centerpiece and/ or Letter of bride’s new last name 🙂
 • Have guests write out Words of Wisdom for the bride and groom
 • Have each guest write their name and address on an envelope (this saves the bride time on addressing thank you cards after the shower!)

sign in table idea for bridal shower

Include a recipe card with the invitation for the guest to bring with them to the shower. This is fun and something she can keep forever. (I still have the recipes from my shower and use them all the time!)

3. Simple Centerpieces

simple mason jar centerpiece. hydrangea. lily. mason jar

I made these simple centerpieces using a mason jar, one white lily, two white hydrangeas and greenery. I didn’t spend a ton. These flowers were ordered from HEB ( grocery store) and the curly willow was cut from my Mom’s back yard. I was so excited when I walked in and Blair (bridesmaid and host) had stacked the flat wood pieces for the base of the centerpiece – It absolutely made the whole display. You can buy these at Michael’s Art Supply or Hobby Lobby.

4. Chalkboard Signs to Label Food

easy bridal shower bruch recipes

The chalkboard labels are practical and adorable!

5. Mimosa Bar

mimosa bar at a bridal shower

Mimosa bars are the big thing right now! All you need are some fun straws, fruit, champagne, and several different juices.

6. Mason Jars & Gift Tags

bridal shower drinks in mason jars

I went ahead and invested in a ton of mason jars. They are super cheap and can be used for SO many things. I especially love using them for drinks at parties. My go-to “name tag” (so people can keep track of their drinks!) is to buy a pack of cream gift tags. These tags were less than $2 for over 20 tags. I cut the string off of the gift tag and used scissors to widen the hole just a little. Then used navy ribbon and tied on the glass. Navy is the bride’s wedding colors, so you can choose what ever ribbon color you want. I also have used twine and it turned out really cute.

7. Designate a spot for Gifts

bridal shower gift table

You could tell Blair has done this before! She had a designated gift area all set up. People knew exactly where to set their gifts. She even had an adorable burlap sign that said “Miss to Mrs” hanging on the mantle.

8. Bridesmaid Tasks

bridal shower

 • Set uptwochairs: One for the bride and the other for the bridesmaid who is in charge of writing down all the gifts received and who they are from. Don’t forget pen/paper 🙂
 • Have severaltrash bags available and put another bridesmaid in charge of gathering all the trash and moving the gifts out of the way when the bride is done opening them.
 • Put someonein charge of taking photos while Bride is opening gifts.

8. Shower Favors

bridal shower favors bridal shower, shower favors, guests I can’t even stress how SIMPLE these favors were. We choose the scent Beautiful Day ( thought it was cute for a wedding shower & it smells amazing!) I got all of these so cheap when Bath & Body was having their huge sales around Christmas. I got half lotion and half shower gels to give people options. Then just tied it with navy ribbon, since those are the wedding colors.

And that’s a wrap! Group shot of the Bride and her maids (Left: Ashley, Blair, Bride- Jennifer, Me!) These girls sure know how to throw a bridal brunch!
img_0002.jpg

Gotta give credit: Ashley went all out on the cupcakes and cookies. Blair hosted at her house and went above and beyond with all the delicious food and decor in the pictures above. & We couldn’t have done it without Brooke and Katie ( who were unable to be there that day, but contributed all the Champagne & shower invitations!)

It was a beautiful shower and we all got to celebrate and toast to the future Mrs. Salinas!

Christmas Sneak Peak & Simple Christmas Centerpiece http://www.ourmessytable.com/christmas-sneak-peak-simple-christmas-centerpiece/ http://www.ourmessytable.com/christmas-sneak-peak-simple-christmas-centerpiece/#respond Tue, 01 Dec 2015 15:29:57 +0000 http://www.ourmessytable.com/?p=645 FullSizeRender Here's a little sneak peak at my Christmas decorations - starting with my coffee table! I made a simple centerpiece using decorations I already had. This is an easy centerpiece that adds a little extra pop to any room for Christmas.]]> I contemplated changing the theme of my Christmas decor this year, but instead of trashing the entire theme ( that I have spent the last five years building) I decided to add a couple fresh new pieces and then find ways to make the old things re-inspire me. Now that I am done decorating, I am so glad that I didn’t completely start over. I just love the way it turned out! I’ll be sharing a full home tour and going into more detail than you probably want to know later this month, but for now, I wanted to start small and show you one of my favorite re-purposed designs this year, using decorations I already had and making them into something new.

Here is my simple Christmas centerpiece for the coffee table:

IMG_9364.JPG

I took a serving tray, a reindeer, ( I bought the lime green/red pick seperately and just attached it to the deer to add some pizazz) & put that all in the tray, along with a silver candlestick. Then I just filled the bottom of the tray with leftover ornaments and pinecones! & it is as simple as that.

IMG_9385.JPG

You can use whatever you want in the tray and get creative! As you start sifting through your holiday decorations, look for a shorter larger piece that can take up a good majority of the tray, then look for taller pieces that can add dimension ( candlesticks, trees etc.) and then surround it with leftover ornaments. I’ve seen some tall, skinny Christmas trees at hobby lobby that would be a nice touch! P.S. The candle is my absolute FAVORITE Christmas candle . It makes the whole house smell like a toasted S’more.

IMG_9363.JPG

IMG_9384.JPG

Hot Cocoa break with Lambeau! (I was paying so much attention to the centerpiece, he thought there was something really good on top of the coffee table!)

Thank you for stopping by! Y’all stay tuned for the full Christmas tour, should be up next week.

Happy Christmas Decorating!
