I went with two different napkins and mix and matched with the stripes and a solid.

I honestly hadn’t planned on redoing my table for Spring, but back in December I returned Christmas plates ( my sweet Meme surprised me with the cutest puppy Christmas plates and I actually had just bought them for myself! Total proof that we are basically the same person and I get all my décor style from my 91 year old great grandmother! haha!) Anyways, that was a long way of saying that I had a gift card left over from the return and when I went into Pier 1, I saw these little bunny plates! Next thing I know, I am changing my entire table décor for Spring!

You may still be able to find these plates in your local store. They are no longer online, but I also love these, which are more colorful and not as muted and these are more traditional!

I found this little guy at Michael’s! How cute is he?! When it came to the centerpiece, I kept it really simple by using a white pitcher filled with pink tulips. Then I put him next to it and added the grapevine carrots. Tip: When decorating the middle of the table with multiple things, I like to use 3 objects that are all different heights. You could also just use the flowers and that would have been plenty!

I found this moss bunny years ago and just stuck it down into the centerpiece! He kind of blends in, but it was just a cute extra little detail!

I found these burlap bunny ear napkin rings at Hobby Lobby, but they also have similar ones at Pier 1.

It has been partially completed for months but over the weekend wecleaned, organized, hung pictures, and hung shelves all to FINALLY get my office finished. Woohooo! Now I finally have a creative place to write posts, plan, andto have a little “me” time to read. I wanted to give you the official tour and share some of my tips for creating a place you will love to be in!

Lindsey’s Office Tour

Tip # 1 – Have an area for you to unwind. A place that you can do things that bring you joy.

For me that space is my big comfy chair! I LOVE this reading nook. I love sitting in it with a great cup of coffee and a book or sometimes if I wake up before John on a Saturday I’ll go curl up in it with a blanket, my pups, and the ipad to watch Netflix. To have such a large chair in this space I had to sacrifice fitting a side table next to it. I found this old shelf in the garage, painted it gold, and it ended up being perfect to hold my coffee!

Tip #2 – Pick colors you love.

I really wanted a clean and bright space. While this to me is cozy and relaxing, this room also doubles as our “studio” and the white walls help for when we shoot diy projects, decor, and recipes.

Tip #3 – Have a workspace that inspires creativity and productivity.

When you keep a clean desk then you are more likely to do work there, where as if you keep it cluttered then you will avoid it, because in order for you to work you will need to deal with whatever is on that desk and so you just go somewhere else. I also like to keep things in view that encourage and motivate me, so above the desk I created a gallery wall of inspirational sayings and quotes. PS: This desk is from Ikea. I think total it was under $30! I used my trusty old spray paint and painted the legs gold. I try not to keep a lot on it and store most of my stuff on the bookshelf, because we are constantly moving this thing in front of the window to take the pictures for our blog posts. Luckily, it is super lightweight and easy to move!

This clothes rack is also from Ikea and was around $13 when I bought it a month or two ago. This has become one of my favorite purchases! It is so nice to have one place to hang outfits and store products that haven’t been shot for the blog yet.

I just picked up 3 of these gold baskets from Walmart! They were less than $2 a piece. I am definitely going back for more. They fit perfectly inside the bookcase and on the bottom of the clothes rack for storage.

Tip #4 -Create a Gallery Wall

I love the gallery wall above my desk. I chose pieces that would be motivating and encouraging. If you want to create your own gallery wall, first, you are going to want a plan of how many items that you want to put up and how you want them spaced out on the wall. I just laid them out on the floor and arranged them how I wanted keeping in mind, that nothing should be perfectly centered. I used a variety of size pictures and added more interesting pieces like the deer and moose head. (Most of the pictures and decor are from Hobby Lobby. )

Second, you need a way to mount them on the wall and if you are like me then you hate using the hammer and nails, because you have to find the studs and then if you mess up they leave a huge hole. To much pressure haha. Well, HelpyHook is about to be your new best friend! Seriously, this may look like a tiny, cute little hook – but this bad boy can hold up to 17lbs!! Sayyyy whhhhha? I was shocked too. I have become a little addicted and used these to hang just about everything in my office…and rehung things that were already hung in the house, just because haha!

PS: how cute is the packaging?! I love the little container and there are a ton of hooks in there. Sidenote: they are also reusable.

Let me tell you how easy the Helpy Hooks are to use: You line it up, then use your thumb (that’s right I said thumb, not hammer) to effortlessly push the hook into the wall. Ta-da! That is it! If you need to remove the hook, you can take another helpyhook and hook the middle ridge with it and it will pull it right out of the wall.

Tip #5 – Add Decor and Accents

Add in little things like scented candles, flowers, and other nic-nacs that help tie the room together.

Thank you so much for stopping by to take a look at my office. I hope some of the tips will help you in creating a space you will love to be in too! I would love to see pictures, tag me on instagram @ourmessytable.

1960’s Vintage Mod Holiday Styled Bar Cart http://www.ourmessytable.com/1960s-vintage-mod-holiday-bar-cart/ http://www.ourmessytable.com/1960s-vintage-mod-holiday-bar-cart/#respond Mon, 26 Dec 2016 23:50:24 +0000 http://www.ourmessytable.com/?p=3793 Sharing how we styled a 1960's Vintage Mod themed bar cart for Cheeky Vintage's pop up shop, that would be super easy to recreate for a holiday party or event! Complete with tinsel trees, vintage ornaments, and lots of pink/white ribbon. ]]> 1960’s Vintage Mod Holiday Styled Bar Cart

Two weeks ago I was asked to style a bar cart for Cheeky Vintage’s pop-up shop in Market Street. When Alice told me the store was all handpicked & curated vintage designer clothes and accessories and that they were wanting the theme of the bar cart to be 1960’s Vintage Mod themed, I was SO excited! I knew I wanted tinsel trees, vintage ornaments, and lots of pink/white. I never decorate like this at home, so it was fun tolet my girly side takeover. I loved the way this bar cart turned out so much, that I wanted to share it with you. It is such an easy look to recreate for a holiday event or party.

img_8325

DecorationsI used: You don’t have to have all of this, you can also look around at what you already have at home. The lightbox, rug, deer & stockingall came from my office. Use the ribbon and wrapped packages to fill up space as well.

 • Tinsel trees
 • Vintage or Whimsy Ornaments
 • Fresh Garland ( Trick: the garland wasn’t as full as I wanted it to be, so for down the left side of the barcart, I used a fake garland underneath. You couldn’t tell the difference with the ribbon and everything on top and the fake garland made it easier to attach to the bar cart.)
 • Hot pink, light pink, and white ribbon
 • Lightbox
 • White fuzzy stocking ( I should have taken a picture of the otherside of this stocking. John decorated this stocking for me 9 years ago! He has a picture of us on it with pink princess ribbon haha!)
 • White fuzzy rug
 • White & gold glitter deer
 • Silver & pink glitter packages

The phone ornament was such a find. I noticed on Cheeky Vintage’s instagram that they had a pink vintage phone at their store and when I saw this ornament at Tumbleweeds & Notion’s shoppe, I knew I had to use it somehow.

img_8327

img_8318

Whimsy Polar Bear Ornament from Tumbleweeds & Notions

My favorite part of the entire bar cart was this ornament pendant ( totally not even sure what to call it?!) I took the hot pink, light pink, and white ribbon and tied it onto the ornaments andlet them hang at different levels, then at the top tied a knot of all the ribbon together then wired the pendant into the garland. All of these ornaments are from Tumbleweeds & Notions. She hadthe perfect mix of whimsy & vintage ornaments that I was looking for. My personal favoriteare the macaroon ones!

img_8319To finish it off, I used a white fuzzy rug, this cute little white deer, and these awesome cardboard trees from Tumbleweeds & Notions.I wrapped packages in different sizes to fill in the rest of the space.

img_8326

We ended up serving the drinks inside, so I filled in the space with some of the extra cardboard trees, but I originally chose poka dot napkins & matching straws for the top. ( Cheeky Vintage made us this little sign – kinda freaked out & took it home and put it in a someday I’ll get around to scrapbooking this exciting moment folder. ) I made holiday sangria for the drinks, it was SO good.

Holiday Sangria Recipe:

 • 1 bottle of white wine
 • 1 bottle of sparkling cider
 • Cut up apples, clementines, and cranberries
 • Serve chilled

Bar carts are SO much fun to decorate. I love decorating mine at home for each season. When we are not entertaining we actually use ours to hold games and blankets. Do you decorate your bar carteach seasonor use it in a nontraditional way?

Thank you so much to Tumbleweeds & Notions for letting us use her amazing ornaments & trees for this event. If you are in the Spring/Woodlands area, you gotta go check out her shoppe! She has the cutest gifts and home décor finds.

Also, a big thanks to Cheeky Vintage for letting us be apart of your pop-up. If you are in the Houston area, they have the most beautiful vintage pieces!

Summer Home Tour 2016

When we moved into our new house last year, I got this crazy notion that none of my “stuff” went with our new house! ( yeah, John wasn’t too thrilled about that!) But it was time for a change. Home tours have been so much fun this year, because I have gotten the chance to start over for each season. When starting over for a season, I always look for a focal point that is going to be my “theme.” I literally squealed with joy when I saw these lemon plates! They ended up being the inspiration for all my Summer decor.

This gorgeous striped bowl can be used in the kitchen, coffee table, or on your dining room table! I filled it with lemons. However, when we entertain, I will probably fill it with snacks!

I love incorporating older pieces that have been passed down from my great grandmother ( who may I add, is still fabulous at 91!) I swear she has better fashion style and home decor now than I ever will! She gave me the blue willow vase on the left and I will cherish it always. She has had it for many, many years and I love that the blue willow is back in style now! I also love this frame and mirror from Michael’s! They were a total find and can be used season after season!

I am a sucker for an old window and this boxwood wreath just MADE it! Plus adding the bright, tassel pillows gave it that pop of color I was looking for! Sometimes, it can be hard to incorporate bright colors with a more “fixer upper” feel style. These pillows were just the right amount of color for that area.

Farmhouse Wooden Bottle Tote http://www.ourmessytable.com/farmhouse-wooden-bottle-tote/ http://www.ourmessytable.com/farmhouse-wooden-bottle-tote/#comments Thu, 28 Apr 2016 06:26:46 +0000 http://www.ourmessytable.com/?p=1888 This Vintage Wooden Tote has that perfect rustic farmhouse feel and makes for a very easy weekend DIY project. ]]> I have really been wanting a fun woodworking project lately and I saw something similar to this on Pinterest, but it was always just as a beer tote. I wanted my farmhouse wooden bottle tote to bea little bigger as to be for both a rustic decoration in the house and to carry more than just beer. So I modified it a bit and it turned out perfect. And of course Lindsey did a phenomenal job by adding her touch to it. She added the idea for the farm style milk glasses and the flowers. This really is a very simple project with the most difficult part being working with the Jigsaw to cut out the shape of the side walls, but if I could buildit then youshouldn’thave any problems either LOL!

Farmhouse Wooden Bottle Tote

Farmhouse Wooden Bottle Tote, Rustic, Farmhouse, Fixer Upper, Milk Tote, bottle tote, decor, handmade, woodwork, diy

Materials:

 • 1 (1in x 8in x 6ft) poplar board
 • Circular saw
 • Drill
 • Tape Measure
 • Speed Square
 • Clamps
 • Hobby Boards
 • Jig Saw
 • 3/4 in Dowel Rod
 • 3/4 spade bit
 • 2 in Square trim screws
 • 220 grit sanding block
 • paint brush
 • Wood stain
 • Bottle opener (optional)

Directions:

Takethe 1 x 8 Poplar Board and measure to cut it to 7⅜ x 11⅞ inches long, then using the circular saw make your cuts. This will be the bottom of the bottle tote.

Next, measure and mark the hobby board to get four pieces measuring 2½-in. x 13⅜-in. long, then cut them using your circular saw.

Farmhouse Wooden Bottle Tote, Rustic, Farmhouse, Fixer Upper, Milk Tote, bottle tote, decor, handmade, woodwork, diy

To create the side pieces we get to do a little art. Take a sheet of paper and fold it in have length wise. Now draw half of your design on one side of the paper starting at the crease. Then while the paper is still folded cut out your shape and BAM, you have your template! The peak of my sides measure 11 3/4 in.

Once you have traced your template onto the Poplar board cut out the shape using your Jigsaw, then repeat the process for the other side.

Taking the 3/4 Spade bit, drill a hole towards the top of your two side pieces for the dowel to fit into.

Cut the ¾-in. wooden dowel down to 13⅜ in. long using a circular saw.

Now take the wood glue and ad some to the holes and on the ends of the dowel and then place each end into the side pieces to form your handle.

Apply wood glue to the bottom of the side pieces, then with the drill, secure frame together using 2-in. square trim screws.

Next, you’ll measure, mark and cut hobby boards for the inserts. These will divide the bottle tote’s interior into six sections.

Using a circular saw, cut one piece to 2½-in. x 11⅞-in. and 2 pieces to 2½-in. x 7⅜-in.

Next, using the jig saw, on the (2)7⅜-in notch out each insert a ½-in. every 3¾ inches. Make your notches 1¾-in. deep.

The last cut is the side rail. Cut 2 hobby boards to be 13 1/4 in long and cut with the circular saw. Then assemble them using the square trim screws.

Once fully assembled the last step is to stain. Using your brush and the wood stain, apply stain and remove any excess stain. Let dry and then wipe off the stain.

As an optional finishing touch you can add a bottle opener to one of the sides.

Pineapple Perfection http://www.ourmessytable.com/pineapple-perfection/ http://www.ourmessytable.com/pineapple-perfection/#respond Thu, 21 Apr 2016 03:47:13 +0000 http://www.ourmessytable.com/?p=1752 With all the gloomy weather in Houston this week, I decided to put together a bright & cheery list of things I am currently loving! ]]> Aloha!

It has been so dreary and rainy in Houston this week. You may have seen on the news all the flooding and awfulness that has been going on. We were very blessed to be in an area that did not sustain any flood damage and we have been avoiding going into the city to steer clear of all that. With all the gloomy weather, I decided to put together a bright & cheery list of things I am currently loving: Pineapple Perfection!

Right now I am currently loving all things pineapple! It started this weekend when I picked up an adorable pineapple cookie jar and I have been spiraling ever since ( luckily almost everything is one sale!) Here’s some of my other favorite pineapple pieces.

Most people exist, that is all. – Oscar Wilde”

I have a deep longing in my soul to see the world. I can’t explain where it comes from I just know it to be true. I never traveled much as a kid except to see family, but as I read more I learned the world was massive and I wanted to see it all. There is to much to see and do and it would a shame if I cheated myself out of a mighty big adventure. I’m blessed to have a wife who shares this passion and so now I have someone to share these adventures with. This idea came out of wanting to document those adventures. We selected a color pin for us each individually and then a color for us together, marking all the places we have been and allowing us to dream of where the next pin will go. This Pin Board Travel Map is a fun and simple project for anyone who loves to travel.

Materials:

 • Map
 • Cork Board
 • Wood Glue
 • Spray Glue
 • 1 x 2.5 x 8 Common Board (2)
 • 4 x 4 Plywood Sheet
 • Wood Screws
 • Wood Stain
 • Pins

Directions:

 • First thing is to measure the map so that you can have an idea of what size to cut the plywood, leaving a 2.5 space around the edge in order to make room for the frame.
 • Next cut the plywood and cut the common board to fit the outside of the frame.
 • Once cut, sand and stain the outer frame pieces and let dry.
 • While those pieces are drying, measure of the cork board to fit the map size and cut it accordingly.
 • Using the Spray Glue, attach the cork board to the plywood.
 • Once that is dry, glue the map to the cork board making sure to flatten out any bubbles.
 • Now one at a time use the wood glue to attach the frame pieces to the plywood at the edges of the map. Use clamps to hold the two pieces together and then from the back, drill the pieces together using the wood screws.
 • Repeat this for each frame piece.
 • Add a hanging fixture to the back of the frame making sure to center it on the back.
 • Now find your favorite spot on the wall and hang it using a level.
 • Finally place the pins on all the places you have been and then dream of where you will go next.

If you are in need of some Spring decor inspiration or just want to see what we have going on over at the Lyons' house then this post is for you. ]]> Happy Spring, Y’all! I love to decorate the house for Spring. Life lately has been so chaotic (I’m sure many of y’all can relate!) So, I tried to stick to a minimal, clean, and fresh look. Something that won’t overwhelm me when I get home from a busy day! Here’s a look at our Spring Home Tour 2016!

I have mentioned this in earlier posts, but when we bought our new home this past Summer, I completely changed the color scheme in our house. Since then I have been collecting metal pieces, birchwood, cream & distressed decor. I have been trying to stick with those main staple pieces for every season, which saves me money, because I can reuse the same pieces in new ways each season. (Instead of buying a bunch of decor that I can only use once a year.) I did however, splurge on a couple bunnies for Easter, but for the most part – everything I got can be repurposed for each season.)

This is little wall in the living room is my favorite area in the house right now. This boxwood wreath& pillows really brought this area together.

This “Have I told you lately that I love you sign” used to be lime green and red. Take a look at what you already have and see if you can paint it and give it a fresh new look.

We use our coffee table all the time. So, lately I have been choosing simple centerpieces that won’t get messed up if we keep moving them around.

This candlestick goes with EVERYTHING. I like that it adds a little shimmer and breaks up the distressed pieces I have in the living room. & this metal tray has been used for SO many things. This is going to sound dramatic, but I would put it at the top of my best purchases of the year. It was so cheap and I have used it for other centerpieces& at a bridal shower to hold drinks.

This glass clochecaught my eye the minute I saw it! I put moss and these paper cache eggswith the little chicks inside it. I just love the way it turned out!

This easy monochromatic letter wall project will create a perfect welcoming feel to all who enter your home.]]> A long time a go I found this idea on pinterest and as most pins do, it sank deep within one of my boards and I soon forgot about it. But recently I saw these letters at Michael’s Art Supply and it triggered my memory of this project that I wanted to do. So this is “our messy” version of the same Home Sweet Home wall.

This project is incredibly simple, just find some letters from Michael’s Art Supply and then paint them to match the wall that you want them to hang on. Once they are dry simply glue them to the wall. I suggest using a level to mark the wall first to give yourself a nice straight line – otherwise it may look like you did this project after that 4th glass of wine 😉

Hope you enjoyed this simple DIY! We wanted something minimal in our entryway, that wouldn’t take away from our decorations on the table. This simple DIY project was just what we were looking for. We would love to follow along and see what crafts and décor you are using in your entryway – Use #OMThome & we will follow along!

I show you step -by -step how to make one for yourself or to give as a gift this holiday season.

Winter Woodland Wreath

Start with a blank canvas ( or in this case a blank grapevine wreath!) You can find similar wreaths at craft stores like Michael’s Art Supply. I really loved the larger branches in this wreath. It gave it that “woodland” look, I was going for. The right side of the wreath started to unravel – I’ll show you later what we did to fix it.winter, woodland theme, winter woodland wreath, snow owls, snowflakes, diy, craft, wreath, our messy table
Supplies:

 • Greenery – How many branches you need depends on what size wreath you get. My wreath was a medium size, so I went with two frosted picks with small pinecones (top left)and then two larger picks that had a lot of sparkle and glitter ( on the right!) Check your local Hobby Lobby, Michael’s Art Supply, or design shops to find similar picks of greenery.
 • Woodlands Critters – I choose a large owl – that had a frosted, snowy covered tail. I also picked up a snow squirrel ( but didn’t end up needing it in the wreath.)
 • Wired Ribbon – I got this ribbon from Michael’s Art Supply. Always make sure the ribbon is wired. The trick to a good bow is the wire that helps it stay in place.
 • Scissors, Glue Gun, Wire Cutters, & Wire

I thought these greenery picks were just gorgeous! I loved thevariety of greenery they had in them and of course I love anything that glitters & sparkles!

This is not a glamorous picture, but it’s real life, behind the scenes wreath making. It’s easier to work & see the placement of everything when the wreath is propped up. So, we used our paper towel holder to prop the wreath up to give us a better angle to work with.

Notice the wire at the top of the wreath. We used wire to tie the side of the wreath that was starting to unravel a bit, to help hold it into place. At this time, you need to look at your wreath and if there are any awkward areas (sometimes the wreath will not be symmetrical) you decide which area will be the top of the wreath and which will be the side that is hidden. ( I chose the unraveled side to hide.)

winter, woodland theme, winter woodland wreath, snow owls, snowflakes, diy, craft, wreath, our messy table

You want to start with the biggest pieces on the wreath first. So, I started with the larger glittery greenery picks. Once you have found the placement, wedge your pick into the grapevine and then hot glue the jointsto keep intact.

This is the bottom view of the wreath, with the first greenery pick in place.

Then we took the second large greenery pick and put it up high on the left side of the wreath. There will be a gap in the middle of the two greenery picks. (Tip:Set the picks in place on the wreath at the same time before hot gluing to make sure they are not too far apart.)

Now, go back and add your Owl (or the Woodlands critters in) I didn’t mention this above, but since I used a larger owl I only needed one animal as the focal point. If you chose a smaller animal you may need to get two and I would make them different sizes, to give it dimension. Regardless, of what you chose, figure out where you wantit to sitinside of the wreath. This owl had a really pretty frosted tail, so I wanted to make sure that the tail showed and wasn’t hidden in the wreath.

Then hot glue him in place.

The next step is to take the smaller greenery picks and fill in the spaces that need to be fuller. We used wire cutters and cut the branches apart and then hot glued the ends into the areas of the wreath that looked sparse. Once you place the branch, you will need to hold it down to make sure it secured.

winter, woodland theme, winter woodland wreath, snow owls, snowflakes, diy, craft, wreath, our messy table

Be really careful to not burn yourself – you can use an extra branch or stick to hold down the end, so you don’t accidentally burn your fingers! That glue gets HOT.

Now its BOW time! ( My favorite time) You want to take your ribbon and make sure to leave a tail ( see the piece that is laid flat on the table) about that long. Then create a lope and twist before starting another loop (larger on the outside and as you start to move to the inside of the bow, make them smaller) Once you feel like your bow is full enough, use another pice of ribbon to tie the bow onto the wreath. This is kind of complicated to explain, so I decided I will post a video next week to show how I make the bows, so stay tuned!

winter, woodland theme, winter woodland wreath, snow owls, snowflakes, diy, craft, wreath, our messy table

Place the bow into the empty space that was on the left side inbetween the two greenery picks. This is a side view of the bow on the wreath.

If you have any gaps left, you can use a smaller piece of ribbon to fillin. I cut a small piece and then used wire to attach the ribbon to the wreath and hold in place. ( Notice the ribbon tails – I like to cut the tails like this)

The final touch was to add even more sparkle and glitter. These little balls came in a pack from Michael’s Art Supply and really were a nice finishing touch!

I just hot glued the little snow balls throughout the wreath.

The snow balls just added that wintery feel, I was going for ! They really made this wreath.
