Mini donuts - does it get any cuter?]]> Do you ever arrive at a weird thought and then backtrack all the things that got you to that idea in the first place, because where you started couldn’t be any further than where you ended up? I do, a lot, and sometimes I amaze myself! haha. That’s kind of what happened here. Lindsey and I were blog planning and my mind began to wonder, don’t worry I was still totally listening to her as she talked about things and stuff, but somehow I got to thinking about corn dogs, which led to other foods I love that are on a stick. I like popsicles, turkey legs (the bone is basically a stick), I like sausage, I like frozen bananas (there is always money in the banana stand), and I love all kinds of kabobs. So then I started thinking about a food that doesn’t come on a stick, but it would be cool if it did. And then boom…it hit me… Mini Donut Kabobs! Thus this glorious creation was born and now you can enjoy them even more by knowing the painstaking process by which my mind works lol. These Mini Donut Kabobs are perfect for a brunch or sweet treat at party!

1960’s Vintage Mod Holiday Styled Bar Cart http://www.ourmessytable.com/1960s-vintage-mod-holiday-bar-cart/ http://www.ourmessytable.com/1960s-vintage-mod-holiday-bar-cart/#respond Mon, 26 Dec 2016 23:50:24 +0000 http://www.ourmessytable.com/?p=3793 Sharing how we styled a 1960's Vintage Mod themed bar cart for Cheeky Vintage's pop up shop, that would be super easy to recreate for a holiday party or event! Complete with tinsel trees, vintage ornaments, and lots of pink/white ribbon. ]]> 1960’s Vintage Mod Holiday Styled Bar Cart

Two weeks ago I was asked to style a bar cart for Cheeky Vintage’s pop-up shop in Market Street. When Alice told me the store was all handpicked & curated vintage designer clothes and accessories and that they were wanting the theme of the bar cart to be 1960’s Vintage Mod themed, I was SO excited! I knew I wanted tinsel trees, vintage ornaments, and lots of pink/white. I never decorate like this at home, so it was fun tolet my girly side takeover. I loved the way this bar cart turned out so much, that I wanted to share it with you. It is such an easy look to recreate for a holiday event or party.

img_8325

DecorationsI used: You don’t have to have all of this, you can also look around at what you already have at home. The lightbox, rug, deer & stockingall came from my office. Use the ribbon and wrapped packages to fill up space as well.

 • Tinsel trees
 • Vintage or Whimsy Ornaments
 • Fresh Garland ( Trick: the garland wasn’t as full as I wanted it to be, so for down the left side of the barcart, I used a fake garland underneath. You couldn’t tell the difference with the ribbon and everything on top and the fake garland made it easier to attach to the bar cart.)
 • Hot pink, light pink, and white ribbon
 • Lightbox
 • White fuzzy stocking ( I should have taken a picture of the otherside of this stocking. John decorated this stocking for me 9 years ago! He has a picture of us on it with pink princess ribbon haha!)
 • White fuzzy rug
 • White & gold glitter deer
 • Silver & pink glitter packages

The phone ornament was such a find. I noticed on Cheeky Vintage’s instagram that they had a pink vintage phone at their store and when I saw this ornament at Tumbleweeds & Notion’s shoppe, I knew I had to use it somehow.

img_8318

Whimsy Polar Bear Ornament from Tumbleweeds & Notions

My favorite part of the entire bar cart was this ornament pendant ( totally not even sure what to call it?!) I took the hot pink, light pink, and white ribbon and tied it onto the ornaments andlet them hang at different levels, then at the top tied a knot of all the ribbon together then wired the pendant into the garland. All of these ornaments are from Tumbleweeds & Notions. She hadthe perfect mix of whimsy & vintage ornaments that I was looking for. My personal favoriteare the macaroon ones!

img_8319To finish it off, I used a white fuzzy rug, this cute little white deer, and these awesome cardboard trees from Tumbleweeds & Notions.I wrapped packages in different sizes to fill in the rest of the space.

img_8326

We ended up serving the drinks inside, so I filled in the space with some of the extra cardboard trees, but I originally chose poka dot napkins & matching straws for the top. ( Cheeky Vintage made us this little sign – kinda freaked out & took it home and put it in a someday I’ll get around to scrapbooking this exciting moment folder. ) I made holiday sangria for the drinks, it was SO good.

Holiday Sangria Recipe:

 • 1 bottle of white wine
 • 1 bottle of sparkling cider
 • Cut up apples, clementines, and cranberries
 • Serve chilled

Bar carts are SO much fun to decorate. I love decorating mine at home for each season. When we are not entertaining we actually use ours to hold games and blankets. Do you decorate your bar carteach seasonor use it in a nontraditional way?

Thank you so much to Tumbleweeds & Notions for letting us use her amazing ornaments & trees for this event. If you are in the Spring/Woodlands area, you gotta go check out her shoppe! She has the cutest gifts and home décor finds.

Also, a big thanks to Cheeky Vintage for letting us be apart of your pop-up. If you are in the Houston area, they have the most beautiful vintage pieces!

Tablescape:

Since my table is dark, I choose to go with white plates and white napkins to brighten it up. I kept everything very simple and then the centerpiece was the focal point. I hollowed out a pumpkin, put a cup inside with water, and added the flowers. ( We did a similar post on this here.) The pumpkin centerpiece will last for a couple days! I was so impressed with the quality of the flowers from HEB. They were just beautiful!

Listen the next time you ask someone about their holidays or even when someone asks you, it will start will ” In my family we ALWAYS….” or “something we do every year is…”. Traditions. We all have them and we all love them. One tradition that we started as a part of our Friendsgiving every year is a photo booth. It’s a simple thing, but it allows us to create small memories that we can easily share with our guests and it is always a hit.

DIY Photo Booth Backdrop

Supplies:

 • Birchwood stick ( I found this at Michael’s and used a 50% off coupon!)
 • Nails
 • Hammer
 • White Sheet or curtain
 • Ribbon
 • Fake flowers ( Check the clearance section – we got all of these flowers for 80% off!)
 • Props ( The piñata’s were found at Target.)

This year Polaroid has helped us to take the Friendsgiving photo booth to the next level! We used their polaroid zip instant mobile printer to quickly print out the pictures and put them into a thank you envelopefor our guests to take home that night!

The zip syncsvia bluetoothto your phone, so whatever pictures you have on your phone can instantly be printed.

We would love to see what photo booth backdrops you make! Tag us on instagram @ourmessytable, so we can follow along! We also made a DIY Flower Crown that we used as a prop.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

For the last fiveSummers John and I have vacationed in Gruene, TX. We LOVE it there. Gruene has become our favorite place to getaway. While we are there our go-to place to eat is the Husiache Grill. They have the most amazing steaktopped withmelted blue cheese butter that is served with crispy potatoes and we add a glass of red wine. This year we did not make it out to Gruene and we missed out on that delicious meal, which led us tocreate our own version ofthat meal for a Steak & Wine Date Night! We also thought this would be a fun way to share one of our favorite meals with all of you guys! Hope you enjoy this delicious recipe for a New York Strip with Melted Blue Cheese Butter!

New York Strip with Melted Blue Cheese Butter

While John cooked( yes, he does almost all of the cooking! Thank goodness!) I wasin charge of picking out the wine andsetting the table ( I know, Igot the better end of that deal! hah!)It has been raining so much lately in Houston that the weather was much cooler than normal, so we took advantage of it and had dinner outside.

For wine I chose Mark West, a Burgundian styled California Pinot Noir. Not only, does this wine pair perfectly with the flavors of the New York Strip, but it also is pre-filled in single serve recyclable glasses that click together to form one bottle of wine; which is perfect to enjoy outside! Honestly, this is going to be my go-to wine now for entertaining or to take to outside events. I love that it allows you to enjoy a glass, without having to open the entire bottle at one time and there is no hassle!

Our Messy Table http://www.ourmessytable.com/
So funny side note, we wanted to add candles for a little “romantic flair,” but all of the candles we own are scented candles -which doesn’t work well when eating dinner outside. Instead John downloaded a candle app on the iPad and set it up on the table outside. It worked perfectly and the app usesthe microphone so that when you blow into you can actually blow out the candle! haha! It was hiliarous and so cute that John put that much thought into it!

As always thanks for stopping by our little corner of the interwebs and we hope that you enjoy one of our favorite meals for date night!

Keep it messy y’all!

The first thingI wanted in this cart was a sign with our wifi password on it. Every time someone comes over to the housethey always ask what our wifi password is and every time I look at them with a blank look on my face! Geezzz! Why is that so hard for me to remember? We actually have a guest staying with us right now for a month and she already complimented the sign! YAY!

Now for the fun part! I filled this cute basket with m&m’s (our guest’s candy of choice), toothbrush, brand new razor, bobby pins, hair ties, dry shampoo, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, cotton pads, q-tips, floss, and beauty samples of moisturizer and face wash. Throughout the year, I save all the beauty and free samples I get and use them to fill the basket each time a guest comes to stay. I love that it adds a special touch to the cart and is great in case they forgot to pack something!

Entertaining, hosting, host, guest, home, our home, welcome, guest welcome cart, hospitality, stay awhile, our messy tableI added a mason jar of fresh flowers and a chalkboard sign that says “help yourself,” so our guests know that everything on the cart is for them, if they need or want it.

I filled the bottom of the cart withclean towels, a brand new bar of soap, and bottles of water. It is always so awkward when you get thirsty in the middle of the night and don’t want to wake the house up trying to stumble around to find a glass to get some water. This has happened to me before, so I always include water bottles for my guests now. LOL!
