Fall off the Bone Oven Baked BBQ Ribs

Jun 9, 2016 | Posted by John | Entertaining, Meals | 23 comments |

What are my credentials for this fall off the bone oven baked BBQ ribs recipe you ask? Here are two quick facts: I’m a Texan and I love BBQ. Lucky for me the state in which I live has phenomenal BBQ. Every year Texas Monthly puts out a list of the best BBQ spots in the state and ranks them. Using that list a tradition was born. I take a trip with some of the high school guys that I work with and we do “The BBQ Tour”. We take a weekend and eat ONLY BBQ for lunch and dinner, breakfast is donuts of course. Here are the rules: Rule 1: We have an official tour shirt, that’s white, and must be worn for every meal. Rule 2: No utensils or napkins, none. You have to use your hands and that nice white shirt becomes your napkin. Rule 3: There has to be a winner. We rank them with a score card and once we get home we send the winner a trophy. That’s it. Give it a try one weekend and if you are in Texas let me know and I give you the list we use.

So yeah, I love BBQ and with summer here that means more of it. I thought I would share one of the easy ways that I make baby back ribs. With Father’s Day and Fourth of July you will have plenty of opportunity to cook these baby’s up. (pun intended).

Ingredients
  1. Baby Back Ribs
  2. Aluminum Foil
  3. BBQ sauce
  4. Spray bottle
  5. Seasoning shaker
  6. BBQ brush
  7. Olive Oil
For the Rub
  1. 1/4 cup black pepper
  2. 1 tbsp of salt
  3. 1 tbsp of garlic powder
  4. 1 tbsp of onion powder
  5. 1 tsp of paprika
  6. 1 tbsp of hili powder
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 280 degrees
  2. Mix all of the rub ingredients into shaker bottle and set aside
  3. Trim ribs by removing the extra fat from the edges
  4. Remove the membrane from the under side of the ribs**
  5. Rub a small amount of olive oil onto both sides of the ribs
  6. Using the shaker bottle, season the ribs with the rub
  7. Place ribs on a baking sheet in the oven for 2 hours
  8. Remove ribs and lightly spritz them with water using the spray bottle, then add a coat of bbq sauce
  9. Place back in the oven for 15 minutes
  10. Remove from the oven
  11. Prepare some aluminum foil on a baking sheet. Spritz the foil with water and add some bbq sauce, then lay the ribs MEAT side down on the sauce. Spritz and sauce the other side of the ribs and then tightly wrap the ribs in the foil.
  12. Place back in the oven for 2 hours
  13. Remove from oven, open the foil, and let the ribs rest for 10 minutes
  14. Slice and serve.
Notes
  1. **Great Tip: to remove the membrane use a butter knife to wedge between the bone and the membrane and lift up a corner, then using a paper towel pull the membrane off the bone.

Let the Ribfest begin!! I’m always here to help so if you have some questions leave them in the comments below. Also if you are not from Texas tell me some of the best BBQ spots in your state, I’m always looking for another food adventure. Maybe I can expand the BBQ tour to other states?! haha Lindz will love that. Anywho, thanks for stopping by my friends.
